What is an Air shower?

Air Shower is a self contained well built factory assembled designed to deliver a spray of moving air from nozzles transported and virtually can be installed at any site. Absolute filter-fan module provide positive pressurization and filtration down to 99.97% efficiency on 0.3 micron. The Clean Air inside the Shower will support a very high degree of sterility and clean air condition.The system is supplied with optionally aluminium grated floor located approximately 6 inches above datum level. Duct air chassis are installed within the walls of the units. While the system is in operation, both doors will get automatically locked. In case of power failure or an emergency, the doors get unlocked. Construction is of Mild Steel Powder coated / Stainless Steel 304 grade. Provided with two aluminium framed acrylic / glass door with automatic locking device. Statically/dynamically balanced, blower draws the air through pre-filters and throws it through HEPA filter into the chamber. Suitable to work on 220V, 1 phase 50 Hz, AC supply

Air Shower working

Air showers operate similarly to automated car wash pressure washer systems, utilizing multiple steps throughout the decontamination process. The following Air Shower cleanroom specifications process details the operational aspects of a cleanroom air shower.

1. The worker passes through the entry door and a sensor activates interlock magnets, which lock the air shower and cleanroom doors.

2. Numerous adjustable nozzles blow high-velocity streams of Class 100 filtered air onto the worker.

3. The high-velocity air creates a flapping effect on clothing which produces a scrubbing action, removing particulates from cleanroom garments.

4. To ensure all particulates are removed, workers raise their arms and rotate in place.

5. Indicator lights signal the end of the cleaning cycle, and the cleanroom door opens.

Additionally, it takes four to eight seconds of cleaning time and another two to four seconds for the air shower to purge contaminated air before the worker can exit. Computerized microprocessors control the cleaning and wait times associated with the air shower decontamination process.

Cleanroom Air Shower Tunnels Prevent Contamination between Cleanrooms

Cleanroom air showers can be integrated to create self-cleaning air shower tunnels for environments where two or more cleanrooms are being utilized. Cleanroom air shower tunnels effectively remove particles as personnel and products travel between cleanrooms, significantly reducing the risk of contamination between work areas that have different ISO ratings. Up to five Cleanroom Air Showers can be combined based on your requirements.

Air Shower Design considerations

Modular Clean Room Air Shower designs and configurations accommodate specific requirements for industry, as well as the number of personnel using the cleanroom. Modular cleanroom entry systems also simplify shipping and assembly.

Utilizing a 90-degree design, users enter on one side and exit to the right or left at a 90-degree angle. This allows the Air Shower, with nozzles on two opposing walls cleans workers with ease. In This configuration has fewer air nozzles than the straight-through design and requires the worker to turn 360 degrees to ensure that they’ve been thoroughly cleansed. Other designs may have double doors or even three doors for entry and exit. Configurations include cart/parts-cleaning air showers, which are used for carts, conveyors, pallets and continuous-part operation. Low-profile air showers accommodate facilities with ceilings less than 96 inches. ADA air showers are sized so a wheelchair can turn around in the air shower.

The number of persons that need to enter your cleanroom in each amount of time will have a major impact on the size of the air shower and filtration system that is required. Designs range from single batch systems where one person uses the shower at a time, to tunnel systems for larger groups to pass through quickly.Air Shower Tunnels are becoming more common because of the amount of cycle time needed for a shift change.

Doors

Like air locks, air showers have entrance and exit doors that cannot be opened at the same time. Workers enter one side and exit on the opposite side. When one door opens, the other door’s magnet energizes, preventing it from opening. During the cleaning cycle, both doors are energized (locked) to prevent anyone entering or leaving before the cycle is completed.

Materials

High-quality air shower shells are constructed of steel and painted with a strong, durable cleanroom-compatible finish. For some medical, pharmaceutical, or extremely wet environments, stainless steel construction is ideal.

Some manufacturers offer economy units made of laminated particleboard. However, this option has major weaknesses, including temperature and humidity fluctuations that can cause delamination. The materials are also easy to damage and susceptible to joint loosening. Any of these conditions may generate particulate or biological contamination.

Air Shower Efficiency Testing

New clean room garments without laundry processing, which have residual particulate contamination from manufacturing in a non-clean room environment, are used.
The operator gowns up (in a jumpsuit, booties, gloves, mask and hood), and enters a specially sealed enclosure (the body box). This enclosure is equipped with vertical laminar flow.
The operator performs a series of standardized physical movements in order to induce the generation of particles in the body box, for a specific duration.
A particle counter connected to the base of the body box measures particle count levels. This count is the baseline level.
The operator gowns up using another garment from the same batch.
The operator proceeds into the Air Shower (device under test), for a shower cycle.
The operator exits the air shower and proceeds into the body box. In the body box the operator performs the same series of standardized physical movements in order to induce the generation of particles in the body box, for a specific duration
Particle count levels are measured, and compared against the baseline. The overall effectiveness of the air shower under test and shower cycle is calculated. Shower cleaning efficacy at various particle sizes is also characterized.
